I love to explore the local coffee scene no matter the location. Going out on these adventures is always a highlight of my week as I get to try out my classic breakfast/ brunch combo, Eggs & Coffee, with a unique flavor to it every time. Admittedly, my order is usually the same everywhere I go, a vanilla latte and an egg & cheese sandwich, unless something very particular catches my eye. Hint hint.

What kept me coming back? The family oriented atmosphere, outdoor patio, and friendly faces. Whether I was sipping my iced vanilla latte inside while catching up on emails or enjoying their egg & cheese bagel on the outdoor patio, every visit felt like a small retreat. If you’re looking for a neighborhood cafe with a welcoming crowd, this is the spot.

2. Cortado Cafe Alexandria – Alexandria, VA

Located in a suburban shopping center, Cortado Cafe is a hidden gem for those who appreciate a modern, stylish coffee shop with excellent service. The space has a sleek yet inviting design, making it perfect for both a quick coffee run and a relaxed morning.

What makes this place special? The attention to detail. From their uniquely shaped mugs that make your coffee feel extra special to their incredibly friendly baristas who remember your order after just a couple of visits, it’s clear they care about the experience. Their iced vanilla latte never disappoints, and if you’re looking for a satisfying breakfast, their everything bagel with egg & cheese is a must-try.

3. Lily’s Chocolate & Coffee – Alexandria, VA

If you have a sweet tooth, like me,  Lily’s Chocolate & Coffee is the place to be. While it’s not a traditional cafe, this spot has become famous for its luxurious, Instagram-worthy sweet treats.

One of the menu highlights? Their Dubai Chocolate Bar with pistachios. If you’ve seen it online and wondered where to find it, this is the place! The pink-themed decor adds a fun and cozy touch, making it a perfect stop for an afternoon pick-me-up or dessert after dinner. While I haven’t visited yet, I’ve heard amazing things about this place. Known for its Hawaiian-inspired drinks, smoothies, bagels, and sandwiches, it’s definitely next on my list. Plus, let’s be honest—who wouldn’t want a little taste of Hawaii in Alexandria?

Mae’s Market & Cafe

Mae’s Market is a delightful spot that blends cozy cafe charm with a lively urban vibe. What stood out to me was the great outdoor seating, making it an ideal place to enjoy a slow morning or people-watch while sipping on a fresh brew

The menu highlight? Their egg & cheese croissant with avocado. Buttery, flaky, and packed with flavor, it was the perfect balance of rich and refreshing. If you’re looking for a relaxed yet centrally located cafe experience in Alexandria, Mae’s Market is definitely worth a visit!
